They say if you can dream it then you can do it, and yes, I did it. Getting into an IIM was my dream since 10th grade; I vividly remember telling my math teacher how I wanted to get into an IIM and how passionate I was about it.
Today, as I am a part of the IIM Jammu IPM family, I feel proud of myself for having achieved what I truly wanted. Now, you might be thinking, ‘why is she bragging about her success, we didn’t come here to read that’, in my defense I’ll say that if my success becomes a source of inspiration for even one person reading this blog, I would think I have achieved my objective.
IIM Jammu was established back in 2016 so the institute is 5 years old now. And in these five years it has grown tremendously. This year as the MBA05 batch was passing out, the institute achieved a 100% placement in really good companies like Infosys, Deloitte, Tata Steel etc. I know it’s a relatively new IIM and so it’s natural for anyone to have their doubts about its competency, especially because we often look at an institute in terms of good placements, good faculty, infrastructure etc. But you know as Robert Frost said:
“I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less travelled by,
And that has made all the difference.”
IIM Jammu launched the Integrated Program in Management (IPM) course in 2021. IPM is a 5 -year integrated course which is very different from doing a normal BBA. It aims to transform the students into contemporary managers and not just management graduates. Contemporary managers mean people who can think and have the capacity to adapt to the changing business environment.
As management aspirants you are one day going to work in the corporate world and the point to be noted is that the corporate world isn’t just formed by machines and computers. It is formed by people from different fields and domains working together for various companies. Therefore, unless and until you as a manager have the skills and competencies to integrate the human and technological element in your team you would never be able to become an effective manager.
The highlight of the IIM Jammu IPM is that it offers exit options to the students at the end of each year. After the completion of the first year if a student wishes to leave, he/she would be awarded with the Certificate in the basics of Management. At the end of the second year if someone wishes to leave, he/she would be awarded with the Advanced certificate in Management.
The course curriculum of IIM Jammu IPM course is also very different from a normal BBA course. You can use this link to find out more about the course curriculum of the IPM course at IIM Jammu.

Talking about the admission process of the IPM course at IIM Jammu, it includes the following points:
- First the candidates have to give a Joint Integrated Program in Management Aptitude Test (JIPMAT) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The expected date for the exam this year is 19th June 2022 and the registration for the same is expected to begin from 1st April 2022.
- The 10th and 12th marks are taken into consideration.
- The merit list is then prepared on the basis of the JIPMAT exam score, 10th and 12th marks and a 10% weightage given for gender diversity to female candidates.
|Class 10 Marks||15|
|Class 12 Marks||15|
|Gender Diversity (Female)||10|

Entrance : JIPMAT Paper Pattern
Now, let me give you a little brief about how the exam pattern is.
|Section||Number of Questions||Marks for each correct answer||Total Marks|
|Quantitative Aptitude (QA)||33||+ 4||132|
|Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)||33||+4||132|
|Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC)||34||+4||136|
So, the JIPMAT exam consists of three sections – Quantitative aptitude, Data Interpretation and Verbal ability. There will be 33 questions each in the first two sections and in the verbal ability section there would be 34 questions. The exam is for a duration of two and a half hours. +4 marks are awarded for every correct answer and -1 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer.
It therefore means that guess work would not work in the exam as there is a great risk of losing marks if any candidate does, so I feel that before giving any examination you should be absolutely thorough with the exam pattern. This will help you to form your own strategy as to which section to do first or how many questions are you planning to do in the stipulated time etc.
The strategy will differ from person to person and thus in order to know what works for you, it is extremely important to give sufficient mock tests. To leave no stones unturned in your quest to be a part of IIM Jammu IPM, go through our JIPMAT Preparation Guide.
